Murf Electric Bikes: Which E-bike is Right for You

A Better Way to Bike

As an avid surfer living in San Clemente California, Josh Jones picked up his first e-bike to avoid busy parking lots and to help him get to his favorite surfing spots faster. He discovered that an e-bike was the perfect way to bypass crowded beaches and get to more remote areas without burning too much daylight. When his first e-bike broke and the manufacturer wouldn’t honor the warranty, Josh decided he could make his own quality e-bike, but would do it with outstanding customer service. In March of 2017, Murf Electric Bikes opened its doors just up the road from some of Josh’s favorite surfing spots.

Of course, e-bikes aren’t just for surfers. As the love-child between a road bike and a motorcycle, e-bikes give you the exercise and flexibility that come with road bikes with the convenience and faster pace of a motorcycle — all without requiring a special license or training to operate. Plus, they’re just plain fun. In recent years, e-bikes have become wildly popular as people strive to incorporate biking into their lives.

With dozens of styles and types of bikes to choose from, Josh and his team at Murf recognized early on that there isn’t a one size fits all e-bike for everyone and have expanded their line of products to help you get the most out of your e-bike.

Finding the right e-bike for you depends on who you are and what you want your bike to do. Fortunately, Murf has years of experience and unrivaled expertise when it comes to matching people with the best bike for them. That’s why we turned to Murf to help come up with this quick guide to help you find the perfect fit as you seek to explore the world around you on two wheels.

Choose Your Adventure

The Explorer

Bike paths and riding around town are great, but if you’re looking to grind some gravel and get off the beaten path, then you’re going to want more than your standard beach cruiser. The Fat Murf and the Fat Pax have been built not only for the extra mile, but for the hard miles. Murf’s fat bikes come with four-inch tires in order to provide a smooth ride on rough terrain, even if you do have to sacrifice a little bit of speed in the process.

When you take your bike off the road and onto the trail, there’s a good chance you’ll be facing some significant uphill climbs. The Fat Murf and the Fat Pax both include a 52-volt battery that will generate all the power you need to conquer any hill you come across on your journey. This larger battery size also means you’ll get an increased range of up to 50 miles on a single charge, meaning the Fat Murf and the Fat Pax can keep up with any expeditions you have planned for it.

The Commuter

If you want your e-bike to help you save money on gas while turning your morning commute into an adventure, you’re not alone. As fun as e-bikes are, there are a lot of people who are putting theirs to use getting them to and from work, school, the grocery store, and beyond. Capable of speeds up to 28 miles per hour with a 40-mile range, the Alpha Cargo and the Alpha Murf were designed for the bike lane and are quite a bit faster than their heftier siblings.

Both the Alpha Cargo and the Alpha Murf include a built-in rear rack that will hold your backpack, your groceries, or even a friend. Murf’s Alpha line feature the same powerful battery as their fat bikes, which make these e-bikes as powerful as they are spacious.

The Cruiser

At the end of the day, e-bikes are supposed to be fun, and maybe the most important thing you get out of your bike is a great time. The Izzy and the Pax Cruiser each come with two-inch-wide tires, roughly the same size as standard mountain bike tires, which make for smoother rides without sacrificing speed.  The biggest benefit these lighter models offer is the beach cruiser frame, which keeps you in a comfortable and upright position which make for a more stable and comfortable ride.

Designed as intro level e-bikes with a range of 40 miles and a top speed of 20 miles per hour, the Izzy and the Pax Cruiser are perfect for exploring your neighborhood’s roads, bike trails, and beyond.

A Perfect Fit

E-bikes are an investment not only in the adventures ahead, but in the journeys that will take you there. Whether you’re trying to find a better way to play like Josh was, or if you’re looking to add some adventure into your daily routines, it’s important to find the e-bike that matches your lifestyle. No matter who you are or where you’re trying to pedal to, we can’t wait to see you and your bike out on the trails.
